Did you know that the Alzheimer's Association - South Carolina Chapter has a program to help overwhelmed family caregivers take a break?

The South Carolina Chapter is happy to provide short-term respite (time away from caregiving responsibility) for full-time family caregivers. This is our way of helping these individuals take care of their own health and well-being! When caregivers lack the time to take care of their own needs, they may be putting themselves and their health at risk.

Please help up spread the word to caregivers that a respite voucher for up to $500 worth of care is available to families once a year. After applying for and receiving the voucher, family members are able to arrange care through approved home care agencies, adult day care, or temporary placement in a long term care facility.

The respite program is not designed to pay for services on a long term basis, nor can it be applied retroactively.

This is an educational announcement, rather than a notice of an educational course. Respite vouchers will be available all year long. (There is no event associated with this announcement.)

Receiving a voucher is as easy as applying! For an application packet, please contact the Alzheimer?s Association office nearest you. A doctor?s diagnosis of Alzheimer?s or dementia is required in order to be eligible. Applications must be returned by mail; no faxes are accepted.

If your organization keeps respite applications on file for referrals, please contact an office near you to make sure you that have the most up-to-date information. Thank you!
