Emergency Department Treatment of the Psychiatric Patient for RNs

Purpose: To provide participants with a foundation to identify, communicate and treat the psychiatric patient in the Emergency Department.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
? Discuss common psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
? Describe common signs and symptoms of patient in crisis.
? Describe the characteristics of a possible psychiatric patient.
? Discuss staff and lay persons attitudes regarding psychiatric diagnoses and care of the psychiatric patient.
? Demonstrate effective communication techniques with a psychiatric patient.

Licensed Nurses

FEE
$40 for non members; No fee for AHEC members

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by The South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center?s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 2 contact hours.
