Mechanical Support of the Compromised Heart: The IABP

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

Describe the two primary effects of the intra-aortic balloon pump.
List at least 3 patient scenarios in which the IABP would be appropriate in the plan of action for treatment.
Define diastolic augmentation.
Describe at least two methods of weaning a patient from the IABP.
Describe at least two nursing diagnosis related to the patient receiving IABP therapy.
TARGET AUDIENCE Registered Nurses working in a critical care area and Cardiac Cath Lab Technicians

FEE $55 for non members; No Fee for AHEC members
CREDIT 0.35 CEUs, 3.5 clock hours-AHEC, Cath Lab Technicians.

Upstate AHEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center?s Commission on Accreditation.
Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 3.5 contact hours.
