Power of the Preceptor: Shaping the Next Generation of Health Care Professionals

Purpose: To provide healthcare professionals best practices for becoming an effective preceptor.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
? Describe how to conduct an orientation session for students and interns.
? Explain the five principles of clinical learning and tips for applying them to clinical teaching activities.
? Recognize the characteristics of the TEAM LEADER model for clinical teaching.
? List the eight steps in providing model feedback.
? Describe 8 different teaching strategies.
? Identify the important functions of questions in clinical teaching.
? Describe the 6 guidelines for providing meaningful evaluation of students by preceptors.
? Describe the six traps in the evaluation process and ways to avoid them.

TARGET AUDIENCE All Healthcare Professionals

FEE $60 for non members; No fee for AHEC members; $20 fee for AHEC members needing pharmacy credit

CREDIT 0.4 CEUs, 4 clock hours-AHEC, Non Social Work, Counselors and Therapists
Upstate AHEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center?s Commission on Accreditation.
Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 4 contact hours.
This CE activity is approved for 4.8 contact hours for Physical & Occupational Therapists.
South Carolina Pharmacy Association (SCPhA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. ACPE UPN is 171-9999-10-012-L04-P. This program provides 4.5 contact hours (0.45 CEUs) of continuing education credit for pharmacists. CE statements of credit will be distributed to program attendees by SCPhA within 4 weeks of this program.?
