January 21, 2020Event Time
3:00 pm - 4:00 pmDescription
The January Adult Interagency Council will meet on Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 at 3 PM at The Gardens at Eastside, 275 Commonwealth Drive, Greenville 29615.
The Gardens offers assisted living and memory care. Lyla Poynter and Adam Olson will be our hosts.
Our speaker, Seth James with the Greenville City Fire Department, will present a program on Project Lifesaver. This program provides public safety agencies and caregivers with equipment and training to locate and rescue individuals who are prone to the life threatening behavior of wandering.
Bon Secours St. Francis Health System awarded GCFD a $20,000 grant to purchase equipment that will be provided to low-income families at no cost. Eligible applicants will receive a Project Lifesaver kit, which includes a small transmitter that can be worn on the wrist or ankle. The transmitter emits a unique frequency 24 hours a day and if the person becomes lost, trained emergency responders equipped with special receivers will be able to locate them.
City residents who receive Medicaid, Medicare or SNAP benefits are eligible to receive a transmitter and a year’s worth of batteries for free. Residents who do not meet the eligibility requirements can still participate in the program but will need to purchase their own transmitter.
Caregivers for persons with dementia, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and other cognitive issues may apply.
Adult Interagency Council is an open group of professionals working with people who are disabled or aged in the Upstate area. The purpose of the group is to learn about resources in the area that will help the people in our community. Professionals working with these groups are invited to attend.
Reservations are not required but appreciated.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, January 21st at 3:00PM. Please bring your business cards.
