The Alzheimer’s Association is proud to partner with the Charleston Stage at the Historic Dock Street Theatre for its performance of “Helium†running Feb. 7th - Feb. 25th.

The warm and moving original comedy Helium, which focuses on the flights of fancy of an Alzheimer’s patient and the challenges her family and caregivers face. Helium tells the story of Gramms, a mischievous grandmother who has swiped her daughter’s credit card again. Gramms has ordered another colorful bunch of helium-filled balloons and is soon off on flights of fancy to the seashore of her youth, a visit to her high school chemistry lab, and even battles with the Klingons from an old Star Trekepisode. Once a brilliant, beloved, and whimsical chemistry teacher, Gramms’s mind, lost in the fog of dementia, has begun to wander, even as her daughter and grandsons try valiantly to keep her feet firmly on the ground. This warm and moving comedy, beloved by audiences in productions around the country, returns to the Historic Dock Street Theatre. Though filled with humor, Helium tells the dramatic story of a family struggling with a beloved family member whose slipping away draws them closer.
