With over 70% of people with Alzheimer's disease living at home and receiving care from families and friends, the Alzheimer?s Association Upstate South Carolina Chapter established a new Caregiver Support Group to be held at the RoseCrest Retirement Community. The group will meet on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the RoseCrest conference room. The first meeting will be held Thursday, October 20, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. Meetings will focus on emotional support and sharing experiences, and on specific educational topics, with experts discussing legal issues, nutrition, care giving techniques and community resources. Support Group members are encouraged to share information, give and receive mutual support and exchange coping skills with one another as well as practical suggestions for caring based on their personal care-giving experiences. Reservations are not necessary to participate in the Support Group.
