ICARE (SHIP) Benefits Counselor

Duties and Responsibilities: Gain understanding of Aging & Disability Center Programs to make appropriate referrals; understanding of partner agency benefits and eligibility criteria for referral purposes; facilitate the Medicaid and Medicare application process; understanding and thorough working knowledge of the SC Access and SHIPTalk to perform data entry; perform back-up duties of the I/R&A Specialist; provide information and counseling assistance and advocacy to older adults; assist consumers by assessing needs, determining eligibility. Reaching available options and directing consumers to appropriate resources for services as needed; perform at outreach events discussing all programs within the agency; work as part of the team on the annual Farmer’s Market Voucher Program; complete necessary state and federal reports; and any other job duty as directed by the AAA Director and/or Executive Director.

Education & Experience: BS/BA degree in social services or related field and two years of human social service work experience. Familiarity with Medicare program is a plus.

Required Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Considerable knowledge of human service programs, community resources and delivery systems.
