The Cook is responsible for the preparation of the breakfast, lunch or dinner meals as well as special events as directed by the Executive Chef. In addition, the Cook will perform scheduled kitchen cleaning duties. Adheres to customer service philosophy by providing excellent customer service to Residents and their Families as well as Team Members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Prepare all food items following recipes and procedures
-Ensure that all food items are prepared in a timely fashion
-Use cook to order and batch-cooking methods when appropriate to ensure a fresh product
-Visually inspect all food that is prepared and is ready to be served for proper plating
-Regularly meet with Executive Chef to discuss menu preparation for the upcoming weeks
-Practice correct food handling and food storage procedures (cover, label, date and properly store all food items) at all times
-Properly maintain documentation of all temperature charts and records
-In the absence of the Executive Chef and Sous Chef, oversee and direct all dining service Team Members assigned during shifts
-In accordance with company policy and procedures, federal and state guidelines accurately complete all food production records
-Contribute to team success through positive interactions with both residents and staff on a daily basis
-In the absence of the Executive Chef and Sous Chef, resolve food problems by clarifying the resident's concern, determine the cause, select the best solution, expedite corrected meal or adjustment and follow up with the resident to ensure the resolution meets their expectations within company guidelines
-Will occasionally be responsible for ordering and other administrative duties as assigned
Required Experience
Education:-High school diploma or GED preferred
-Culinary Training Certification or Degree in Culinary Arts, preferred
Experience:
-Minimum 2 years' experience in quality food preparation
-Must be at least 18 years of age
-Must be able to successfully multitask and be adaptable to changing demands
-Must obtain ServSafe Certification as required by local or state agencies within 60 days
-Must be able to effectively communicate in verbal and written English
-Must understand and have knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
-Must have flexibility with schedule and be available to work early morning or evening shifts as well as days, weekends and holidays
-Consistent and punctual attendance for shifts
-Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly
-Must meet all health requirements (including TB) and pass drug/alcohol and background checks
-Senior living experience a plus
