The McIntosh Law Firm is seeking a full-time Paralegal to join our elder law and estate planning team.
Responsibilities
• Assist attorney with drafting, revising, and finalizing trust and estate planning documents.
• Assist attorney with compiling and organizing documentation to support applications for Medicaid planning and long-term care benefits.
• Discussing draft revisions with clients and making appropriate changes to documents.
• Communicate with Clerks of Court, financial advisors, tax professionals, and insurance companies related to estate and trust administrations and estate planning.
• Organizing and maintaining documents in an electronic filing system
• Meeting with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss matter details (on the
• phone, in person, or virtually)
• Drafting and filing Court documents for guardianship matters (occasionally)
• Drafting and recording deeds
• Calendar deadlines, especially critical court filing and deadline dates, but also to track deadlines for tasks, file activity, and completed work.
• Monitor daily schedule of the practice, including attending client meetings in support of attorneys as needed.
• Verify property ownership, request property descriptions, record deeds, file powers of attorney and other documents related to real estate records.
• Send extensive professional correspondence to clients. Communicate with clients to set up appointments, discusses draft documents and changes to documents, and answer general client inquiries.
• Assist attorneys on further ad hoc tasks as needed for estate, elder law and special needs planning cases.
• Complete basic administrative duties as requested, e.g., scanning, paper and electronic file maintenance and organization, notarization, formatting, printing and assembly of documents.
Required Experience
Desirable Qualifications:• Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program
OR
• Two years' experience as a paralegal.
OR
• An associate degree in paralegal studies
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree in related studies
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience with estate planning
• Extreme attention to detail
• Strong oral and written communication skills
