Volunteer – Disaster Dispatcher (Virtual)

Are you organized and flexible, and do you like to talk on the phone? Would you like to be essential to initiating coordinated assistance during times of disaster? If you answered yes to these questions, then the role of Disaster Action Duty Officer/Dispatcher might be something that interests you.

DAT Duty Officers are the lynchpin that holds a Red Cross disaster response together. DAT Duty Officers receive notification from clients and agencies requesting assistance during a fire, flood, or other disasters. They assess the situation and deploy the most appropriate resources to support efforts such as initial casework and recovery planning, canteen services, sheltering, and disaster assessment. The DAT Duty Officer ensures the response team has the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to deliver quality services, all while monitoring the situation and providing support from the comfort of their own home.

Time Commitment:
~ Four, 6 hour shifts/month. On-call shifts very and can be scheduled through our flexible scheduling app
~ Completion of all necessary training
~ Virtually attend meetings
~ Participate in continuing education opportunities

~ Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
~ Ability to remotely monitor and track details of DAT responses
~ Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in complex and stressful situations
~ Speak clearly on the phone and in person
