As a Service to the Armed Forces Caseworker volunteer, you help provide confidential assistance and connect individuals with local, state, and national resources. By providing follow-up and information referrals, you help members of the military, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to the challenges of military service.
Responsibilities include:
~ Maintaining strict confidentiality of any case notes, names, and other personal information in accordance with Red Cross policies
~ Interviewing callers and coordinating requests for service
~ Performing outbound activities including obtaining verifications; delivering messages; coordinating case management services, and/or providing other follow-up actions needed for complete and timely client service
~ Determine eligibility for Red Cross services by assessing client needs and providing appropriate service to clients including referrals to other agencies
Time Commitment:
~ Must be willing to complete all required training
~ 5-8 hours a week (preferred)
Required Experience
~ Complete required national training and locally developed orientation~ Able to support Red Cross SAF mission; have an awareness of and appreciation for military culture, military families, and veterans' issues
~ Demonstrated ability to treat people with respect under all circumstances
~ Ability to apply active listening skills and employ reasoning and questioning strategies to capture, analyze, and interpret information from clients, staff, and management
~ Good computer skills
~ Effective interviewing skills and a sound knowledge of telephone and in-person etiquette and pleasant and friendly manners respectful of human dignity
