Certified Care Managers Launch Local Aging Life Care Association™ Charleston Chapter

Charleston, SC September 2, 2015 – Mary Peters, MS, CMC, RG; Mary Ross McQuage LICSW, C-ASWCM, NCG; and Margaret Kunes, MHA, CMC, all Advanced Professional Members of the national Aging Life Care Association™ (ALCA), have partnered to launch a local chapter of their national professional association. As members of ALCA, Ms. Peters, Ms. McQuage, and Ms. Kunes adhere to the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics developed by the association and its members to ensure public accountability. Peters has been practicing as an Aging Life Care Professional™ (also known as a geriatric care manager) since 1995, McQuage has been practicing since 2008, and Kunes since 2014.
Members of the local Aging Life Care Association™ Charleston Chapter work independently and provide guidance and advocacy for families who are caring for older relatives or disabled adults. With a specialized focus on issues related to aging, these professionals assist clients with the challenges of aging—such as finding appropriate housing, in-home care, referrals to medical providers or elder law attorneys—as well as the advocacy and support that provides families peace of mind. As a unit, the members work together to represent the national ALCA non-profit association (i) to raise awareness about important issues and resources related to aging well, (ii) to sponsor, participate in, and plan local community outreach efforts, and (iii) to educate other professionals about the opportunities to partner with Aging Life Care™ Managers to help clients age well.
The local ALCA Charleston Unit is participating in the following upcoming events:
· Planning committee and additional support for Lutheran Homes of South Carolina’s Forget Me Not Alzheimer’s Education Series September 10th Magic of Memories Dinner at Franke at Seaside to support our local Alzheimer’s Association Chapter.
· 14th Annual SC Alzheimer’s Association Educational Workshop “Putting the Pieces Together” Friday, September 11th at Trident Technical College Event Sponsor and Exhibitor.
· Event Sponsor of National Aging in Place Council (NAIPC) Greater Charleston Chapter’s celebration “Gifts of Aging” on October 20th at Charles Towne Landing.
