SC Silver Haired Legislature Election May 18, 2011

The SC Appalachian Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is coordinating membership selection to The Silver Haired Legislature. Any person who is 60 years of age or older and a registered voter in the county in which they reside is eligible to serve as a candidate. The Silver Haired Legislature, established in 1999, serves as a model legislature for bringing together the wisdom and experience of older South Carolinians as it develops recommendations for legislation to the Governor and General Assembly. The group has successfully advocated for many issues pertinent to older adults.
The group meets every September in legislative session for formulate resolutions to be presented to the SC General Assembly the following January.
REGISTERED VOTERS, age 60 or older, ARE NEEDED TO SERVE in the Appalachian caucus serving Anderson, Oconee, Pickens, Greenville, Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties. Candidates cannot be: an Area Agency on Aging/Council on Aging Employee, a paid lobbyist for any group or a candidate or current member of the SC General Assembly.
