SCAIPC – “Hire Me” Initaitive

An important outcome from the Community Roundtable held by the SC Aging in Place Coalition last Fall was an initiative for older adults who need or have a desire for employment. We’re glad to report that the Coalition’s “Employment for Seniors” Initiative is off to a great start! On July 17 a room full of older adults attended a “Hire Me” event sponsored by SCAIPC and Goodwill Industries and hosted by the Mt. Pleasant Senior Center. Attendees heard from Target Store management that some 30 jobs were open and waiting for them at their Mt. Pleasant store. Target brought four recruiters who were kept busy taking employment applications on-the-spot from attendees interested in employment. Planning for employment initiatives with other employers and at other Centers is underway. Thanks to members of the SCAIPC/Goodwill team including Paul Franklin, Christine Sheffield, Patty Stanford, Dick Giffen and Dana Madanski for moving forward with this important initiaitive.
