Senior Action Announces Purchase of New Building, Expansion of Services

November 26, 2019

Greenville, S.C. [November 20, 2019] – Senior Action announced plans to expand services and make
room for new members today, following the purchase of a building that will double the size of its current
headquarters. Located at 3715 East North Street, near the intersection of Howell Road, the new spot
offers 32,000 square feet of space for programs and activities.
“We outgrew our current location a while ago, and we’re currently only serving 5% of the senior
population in Greenville County,” says Andrea Smith, Executive Director of Senior Action, a non-profit
organization that connects adults over the age of 55 to vital programs and services to help them stay
healthy, active and engaged in their community. “By the year 2020, one in six Americans will be a senior.
If we’re going to address the ever-changing needs of our growing senior population, it’s pretty straight
forward: we need more space.”
Plans call for an expanded fitness space for health and wellness classes, as well as a conference center
that can seat up to 400 people for special events. Set to open in Summer 2020, the new space will also
have a Fine Arts Center with music, art and movement studios specifically for seniors, thanks to a
$100,000 gift from Greenville Women Giving.
“Art and music programs are among our most popular and consistently have a waiting list,” says Smith.
“The fine arts center will feature sound-proof rehearsal rooms, a pottery kiln and a dance space. We will
be able to host artists-in-residence, guest instructors and art exhibits. The opportunities to create beautiful
art and music together are endless. We’re so thankful for such a generous gift.”
The building Senior Action has been housed in since 2007 is approximately 15,000 square feet. It’s
tucked away behind the Post Office on Orchard Park Drive, offering only 76 parking spaces. The new
headquarters is less than two miles away, in a highly visible and convenient location, with lots of level,
accessible parking. “This new building gives us much-needed space to grow,” says Smith. “We hope it will
also increase our revenue stream so we can continue serving as many seniors as possible.”
Senior Action serves nearly 5,000 seniors at 8 locations throughout Greenville County, offering a variety
of educational programs, fitness classes and social events, as well as access to services like medical
transportation, lawn care, home-delivered meals and affordable housing.
Senior Action is a non-profit organization devoted to keeping adults over the age of 55 active, healthy, and engaged
in meaningful activities, by offering health and wellness programs, social and civic involvement initiatives, and a mix
of dining, transportation and home care services. In partnership with numerous other service providers in the
community, Senior Action has been serving Greenville County since 1967.
