Spartanburg Be A Santa To A Senior Program Update

December 18, 2013

The Be A Santa To A Senior program for Spartanburg and Cherokee counties concluded this week with the distribution of more than 2,100 gifts to over 300 seniors who would normally not be celebrating Christmas or who don’t have family nearby. In addition local area elementary schools provided over 300 handmade Christmas Cards with personal notes from their students.

We want to thank all of our fellow Upstate Senior Network associates that participated in supporting this program. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated by our seniors. We also want to send a special thanks to both Walgreens Pharmacy and CVS Pharmacy for their incredible support in helping facilitate Ornament Trees. The staff at these retailers went above and beyond to assist in making sure all the gifts were received and safely stored. Thank you to Lowes for their generosity and assistance in building signs and helping with sorting materials. Finally, a special thanks needs to go to the generosity of many local church groups who combined provided gifts for over 100 seniors and provided assistance to wrap all of the gifts this past weekend.

Finally we all need to thank the generosity of the citizens of Spartanburg and surrounding counties whose generosity made all this come together, obviously without their support none of this would ever have happened. We are already looking forward to next year when we will be expanding the program to provide Christmas for more than 600 local area seniors.

Again, from the bottom of our hearts, thanks for everyone’s help and see you next year.
