Training and Treatment Options – Elder Mistreatment

As we look toward 2020, the MUSC Elder Abuse Training and Treatment Program continues to increase awareness through education about elder mistreatment and treatment options for managing the mental health effects that often follow.

As a reminder, our program offers both trainings to healthcare providers on how to identify and refer potential cases of elder mistreatment, as well as mental health treatment to victims of elder mistreatment. If you are interested in scheduling a training for your staff or know an older adult who may need treatment, please contact our program directly at 843-792-0796 and 843-792-2910 or email steedlem@musc.edu.

Please see below for additional information:

The Identifying and Referring Elder Mistreatment training is a concentrated overview of how to identify the signs, symptoms, risk factors, perpetrator characteristics, and mental health effects of elder abuse, as well as how to report and refer potential cases after a patient has been screened. Training can be delivered both in-person and online with an opportunity for CMEs. This training is offered at no cost.

Mental health treatment is available for individuals 60 and up who have experienced trauma at any point in their life and are dealing with symptoms (depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc.). Treatment is always free of charge and is available via telehealth or in-home sessions.

Thank you and we look forward to another year of serving the Lowcountry!
